Privacy

This page explains what happens to your information when you visit clixafe.com or email us, or if you’re in a photo we train or test our AI on, or you took one. The Clixafe filter isn’t available yet. It will have its own privacy notice before anyone can install it.
Who we are
CLIXAFE LTD is responsible for your information on this website (the “controller”). We are a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17498780. Our registered office is Flat 3 Gelman House, 65 Stamford Hill, London, England, N16 5FF.
For anything about your information, write to privacy@clixafe.com.
What this website collects
- No cookies, analytics or advertising. The website has no forms and loads nothing from other companies’ websites. Our fonts and pictures are our own files.
- Technical information. To show you the page and protect it from attacks, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, handles your IP address and the details your browser sends with each request, such as the page you asked for and the type of browser. We don’t keep records of individual visits. Cloudflare shows us only totals, such as the number of visits.
- Your language. When you press the language button, your browser remembers your choice until you close the tab. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
If you email us
Our emails show our logo, which your email app may load from this website. Cloudflare handles that request like a page visit; nothing in it tells us whether or when you opened an email.
Our email runs on Google Workspace. We use your email address and your message only to answer you and to keep a record of our conversation. We keep emails for up to two years after the last message, unless we need them longer for a legal reason, such as a dispute or tax records.
Photos we train our AI on
The Clixafe filter will hide people in pictures on the user’s own device. The AI that finds them is ours, and we teach it with photos of people from two public collections, Open Images (made by Google) and COCO. We use only photos their photographers shared on Flickr under the Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY 2.0), with the outlines or boxes the collections drew around each person. We take them from the collections’ own copies, never from Flickr itself, and from nowhere else.
- What the AI learns. Only the shape of a person, so it can cover them. It never learns who anyone is: no face is matched, and it knows nothing of anyone’s name, age, gender or religion.
- Who sees the photos. Nobody. A program shrinks each photo as it arrives and trains on it. No one at Clixafe looks at them.
- Where. On a computer we rent by the hour from Scaleway in Warsaw (Poland), which acts only on our instructions. The photos never leave it. When training ends, we delete them and the computer.
- Testing. We check the AI on another 5,000 photos from COCO, kept locked on our own server at Hetzner in Germany. Nobody looks at them either.
- What we keep. The trained AI, which holds no photos, and a list of the photos we used, with each photographer’s name, the photo’s title and its page, so we can credit them and find a photo if someone asks us to remove it.
Why we can use them. Our legitimate interest in building a filter that hides people in pictures, which our users ask for (Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR). We wrote down why this doesn’t override the interests of the people in the photos, in an assessment you can ask us for.
If you’re in one of the photos, or you took one, write to privacy@clixafe.com with its link or number (its Open Images or COCO number, or its Flickr page). If it shows your child, you can ask for them. We take it off our list and out of every later training within one month. Your other rights, and the regulators you can complain to, are below.
Why we can use it
The law lets us use this information because of our legitimate interests: running a secure website and answering the people who write to us (Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR).
You don’t have to give us any information to read this website, and no law requires you to. If you email us, we need your email address to answer you.
We don’t make automated decisions about you, and we never sell your information.
Who handles it for us
- Cloudflare, Inc.: hosting and protecting this website.
- Google: our email (Google Workspace).
- Scaleway SAS: the computer our AI trains on, in Warsaw (Poland), only while it trains.
- Hetzner Online GmbH: the server we test our AI on, in Germany.
They act only on our instructions, under their data processing terms. Scaleway and Hetzner keep the information in the European Union. Cloudflare and Google may handle it in the United States. Both are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension, and their terms include the standard contractual clauses as a further safeguard.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, to object to our using it, or to get a copy of it. Write to privacy@clixafe.com. We answer within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us at privacy@clixafe.com. We’ll confirm we’ve received your complaint within 30 days, look into it, and tell you the outcome.
We’d like to help first, but you can always complain to a data protection regulator:
- in the UK, the Information Commission (formerly the ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
- in Israel, the Privacy Protection Authority: gov.il, Privacy Protection Authority
- in the European Union, the regulator in your country (in Belgium, the Data Protection Authority): the list of EU regulators
Adults only
This website and Clixafe are for adults, aged 18 and over.
